Almost Holiday Time
Wow! So I’ve been in NYC for almost four months, and – while I’m somehow not yet a millionaire – I’ve had any number of unforgettable experiences since getting here. I’ve been studying with Sophia Rosoff and Fred Hersch, both people who I dream of studying with. I’ve nearly survived a semester of three classes in the Columbia English Department and learned a HUGE amount! I’ve played a few great shows – here in the city, in West Palm Beach, and in Boston last weekend. At one stretch, I saw my three favorite living pianists – Brad Mehldau, Keith Jarrett, and Fred Hersch – within 12 days of each other. I’ve gone to museums, lectures, readings, masterclasses, and nearly anything you can name to try to take in every possible experience. AND I ran the entire perimeter of Central Park the other day. 🙂
So, I’m headed home to California from December 18th to January 8th, I hope to see as many friends as possible while I’m there! For next semester, hopefully I’ll be doing a little less reading and a little more practicing, jam session-ing, and composing. If anybody actually reads this, I wish you the best holiday season, and I’ll see you in the new year!
Moving to New York
Hello friends! On August 20th, I’ll be setting sail out to New York City, where I’ve heard the streets are paved with gold. For those who don’t know, I start my Master’s degree at Columbia University in English and Comparative Literature this year while still studying piano and hoping to gig as much as possible.
