Arizona & California

‘m getting on a jet plane tomorrow afternoon for a much-anticipated trip to play in the Chandler Jazz Festival and teach some extremely talented students at the East Valley Yamaha School. This will be the third year that I’ve represented EVYS in the festival and I’m bringing my friend, Phoenix-native Lucas Pino along to help me out. It should be a great performance!

From there, I’m travelling to my home state of California to do a couple of performances. I’m playing a private event Sunday afternoon, and then a concert with the jazz bands at Irvine High School on Monday evening, April 2nd. I hope to see you there, Irvinites!

New Recording, Lots of Blog Action

Hi Friends,

I’m happy to announce that I’ve finished recording new material for my album “Finger-Songwriter” with vocalist Nancy Harms and woodwindist Lucas Pino. We’re very excited about the album, which will be available Mid-May from Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records.

Also, I’ve been reinvigorating my blog, with over 500 hits in February so far! In fact, just yesterday, I wrote and posted my first ever short story. Go and check it out!

Best,

Jeremy

Hal Leonard Book Available

My first published book, Jazz Etude Inspirations, is available from the Hal Leonard Corporation. Jazz Etude Inspirations is a collection of eight original piano etudes inspired by some of the most important jazz pianists in history. Etudes in the style of legendary greats Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington, McCoy Tyner, Jelly Roll Morton, Chick Corea, Brad Mehldau, Count Basie and Herbie Hancock will help students master some technical challenges posed by each artist’s individual style. The performance notes include a biography, practice tips and a list of significant recordings. Tunes include: Count on Me • Hand Battle • Jelly Roll Me Home • Minor Tyner • Oscar’s Bounce • Pineapple Woman • Repeat After Me • Tears Falling on Still Water. Intermediate to Late Intermediate level.

One of Downbeat’s “Top CDs” for 2011

“Simple Songs” was named among Downbeat magazine’s “Top CDs” of 2011 in the December 2011 issue. Yes, for those of you keeping track at home, the CD was actually released in 2010, but – as it was reviewed in 2011 – it gets listed as a “best of 2011.” Either way, I’m not complaining, right?!?

Great New Review from DigitalJazzNews.Com

Better late than never! Brent Bart of digitaljazznews.com says that “Simple Songs” is “a wonderful if not timeless release of where the piano trio can and perhaps should be going” and that I play with “an incomparable lyrical sense of purpose.” Wow, he seems like a nice guy!

November at the Kitano

Back by popular demand, i’ll be playing solo piano every Tuesday in November at the Kitano! Special guests will be showing up most every night, so come on out!

Finger-Songwriter at the Kitano

I’m extremely excited to premiere a bunch of new music for my ensemble, Finger-Songwriter – a group with the soul of the singer-songwriter movement and the grace of a chamber trio. There will be two sets at 8 and 10 PM on Wednesday, September 21st, at the Kitano, quickly becoming my home-away-from-home in the city. Besides myself, the gig will feature the enchanting Nancy Harms (voice) and the effervescent Lucas Pino (woodwinds).
