Have you ever felt conflicted between following in traditions and seeking your own path? That’s the subject of my new composition, “Homesick.”
This piece is built around two pairs of melodies – the outer pair (in the pianist’s pinkies) moves in contrary (opposing) motion while the inner voices (closer to the thumbs) move in parallel motion.
These opposing and parallel voices represent these two human impulses – on one hand to live a life modeled on those who have come before us; on the other, to seek a new path. Enjoy!
